Iraqi President, PUK President to attend late Iran’s President’s funeral

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid and PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani traveled to Iran on Saturday to attend the funeral of Ebrahim Raisi and his companions.

Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid arrived in Tehran on Saturday to offer his condolences to the family of the Iranian President and his foreign minister, according to a statement from the presidential press office.

The President was joined by Bafel Jalal Talabani, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, as well as other high-ranking Iraqi officials including Adil Abdulmahdi, the former Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi of the al-Nasr coalition, Hadi al-Amiri of the Badr organization, Humam Hamoudi of the Supreme Islamic Council, Nizar Amedi the Environment Minister, Khalid Shwani the Justice Minister, Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, a member of the Council of Representatives, and various other officials.

On May 19th, Officials said the aircraft – a decades-old, US-made Bell 212 – hit a mountainside as it flew to the north-western city of Tabriz in fog and heavy rain.

Raisi was traveling with Amir-Abdollahian, the governor of East Azerbaijan province, Malek Rahmati, and Tabriz’s Friday prayer leader, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem, as well as the head of the presidential security team and the helicopter’s three crew following the inauguration of two dams on the border with Azerbaijan.
