Record funds raised for Yazidi community in annual night of refugees event

This year’s Night of the Refugees event has garnered overwhelming interest, with registrations surpassing organizers’ expectations.

The event, set to take place in five cities on Saturday, will see 7,000 participants walking 10, 20, or 40 kilometers to raise funds for emergency aid for those fleeing conflict.

Participants, sponsored by donors, aim to support global refugee assistance efforts. Already, over one million euros have been raised ahead of the fifteenth edition, with individual contributions reaching thousands of euros.

Funds generated from the event will primarily benefit the Yazidi community in Iraq, along with refugees in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Afghanistan, and Chad.

The Yazidi community was targeted by ISIS a decade ago, with many facing violence, displacement, and loss.

The ongoing challenges include unsafe living conditions, damaged infrastructure, and a lack of essential services, with only a portion of the population able to return home.
