Former Iraqi Health Official Extradited from UAE to Face 28-Year Prison Sentence

The Government Information and Communication Office announced on Monday that the Federal Integrity Commission’s relentless efforts have resulted in the extradition of a former Director General of the Ministry of Health to Iraq from the United Arab Emirates.

The fugitive, Nawras Abdul Razzaq Abdul Shaheed, is convicted in 12 criminal cases.

According to a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Commission’s Recovery Department, in collaboration with the Arabic and International Police Directorate at the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice, and Public Prosecution, successfully coordinated the handover.

Abdul Shaheed, the former Director General of the Babil Governorate Health Department, had been subject to an international red notice due to the recovery files organized by the department.

The fugitive was sentenced in absentia to a cumulative 28 years of severe imprisonment across 12 cases. The Commission had previously announced on February 23 of last year that the UAE’s General Directorate of Federal Criminal Police had arrested Abdul Shaheed based on the international red notice and the associated recovery files, stemming from the criminal charges against him.
