Representatives from Iraq, Turkey, the UAE, and Qatar gathered in Basra to discuss recent progress on the “Development Road” project, a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing regional connectivity through Iraq’s Grand Faw Port.
The meeting focused on finalizing the project’s economic feasibility study and outlining crucial routes for its implementation. Spearheaded by Iraq, with active participation from Turkey, Qatar, and the UAE, this session marked another step in accelerating the development of the strategic corridor linking East and West via Iraq.
Dr. Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of Iraq’s General Company for Ports, emphasized the significance of this gathering, which was held under the directives of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi. High-ranking officials from each participating nation attended, concentrating on the next phases of implementing the regional transport network.
Initially established through a quadrilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in April 2024, the Development Road project is expected to provide substantial economic benefits to all member states and their neighbors, solidifying its role as a key infrastructure initiative for the region.
