Iraq Faces Power Shortage as Iranian Gas Supplies Halted for Maintenance

Iraq’s Electricity Ministry has announced a temporary suspension of gas supplies from Iran, citing maintenance work.

The disruption, expected to last 15 days, has significantly affected Baghdad, the central provinces, and the Middle Euphrates.

The halt has caused a loss of approximately 5.5 gigawatts from Iraq’s national electricity grid, raising concerns over potential challenges for residents and industries dependent on stable power supplies.

Officials have not provided an exact start date for the suspension, leaving uncertainty about when gas flows—and the associated electricity production—will fully resume.
