Security Forces Dismantle ISIS ‘Kurdistan State’; 14 Arrested, 5 Killed in Extensive Operations

The General Directorate of Security Operations (Asayish) announced the successful dismantling of an ISIS faction known as the “Kurdistan State” in a large-scale security operation.

The effort led to the arrest of 14 ISIS fighters and the elimination of five others, while the security forces suffered the loss of three personnel.

According to a statement from the Asayish, the operation spanned from August 9 to November 22, involving coordinated efforts with the General Directorate of Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG), the Kurdistan Commando Forces, the National Security Agency, and support from Iraqi warplanes.

The mission targeted areas along the borders of Sulaymaniyah, Kirkuk, Halabja, and Ranya, ultimately dismantling the “Kurdistan State” of ISIS.

The statement revealed that this ISIS faction had orchestrated plans to connect sleeper cells in Kurdistan and Iraq with terrorist networks in Turkey and Iran.

Among its schemes were attempts to establish fake military checkpoints to abduct businessmen, alongside plots to attack security agencies, government and political figures, citizens, and military bases.

The Asayish dedicated this operation to the memory of the martyrs of Karadag and Nawshuan, emphasizing the sacrifices made during the mission. Three security personnel lost their lives in the process.

The crackdown resulted in the neutralization of 19 ISIS fighters, with 14 captured and five killed, marking a significant blow to the group’s operations in the region.
