On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), reaffirmed the party’s unwavering dedication to championing women’s rights and recognizing their significant role in society.
In a statement marking the day, Talabani highlighted the PUK’s historical commitment to supporting women, describing them as “an influential component of the party’s structures.”
He emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for women to actively contribute to the development of Kurdistan and its future.
“On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we reaffirm our dedication to supporting, defending the rights, and realizing the aspirations of women,” Talabani said.
“We emphasize fostering a more conducive and healthy environment for Kurdish women to engage increasingly in management centers and contribute to the country’s development and building a brighter future.”
The PUK leader reiterated the party’s resolve to combat violence against women and ensure justice for victims.
“On this day, we must underscore our unwavering commitment to confronting and prosecuting individuals who harass and perpetrate violence against women in whatever form. Wherever there are violations, we will challenge them and take legal action against anyone at any rank and position,” he stated.
Talabani also stressed that achieving justice and equality in society requires peace, stability, and the protection of women’s rights. “Justice and equality in society are unattainable if women are not afforded peace, stability, and protection of their rights and aspirations,” he said, calling for unified efforts to end violence against women in all its forms.
