Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Vahid Jalalzadeh, has emphasized the importance of strengthening relations with Iraq during a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, Omar Al-Barzanji.

The two officials discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the neighboring countries, which share deep historical and cultural ties.

Jalalzadeh, who visited Baghdad on Wednesday, met with several Iraqi officials to push for the implementation of previously agreed-upon initiatives between Tehran and Baghdad.

A key outcome of the visit was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during the eighth joint consular commission between Iran and Iraq. The agreement addresses various consular matters and aims to resolve issues faced by citizens of both nations.

Highlighting the extensive people-to-people interactions between the two countries, Jalalzadeh noted that Tehran and Baghdad have maintained strong communication and cooperation at consular levels, fostering closer ties between their citizens.
