The Iraqi parliament meets today to host Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and deliberate on critical budget amendments.
According to the parliament’s press office, the session includes the second reading of the first amendment to the federal budget law.
A central focus of the amendment is to address halted oil exports, which have been stalled for over 20 months. The Council of Ministers has proposed raising extraction and transportation costs from $6 to $16 as part of efforts to resume oil exports.
In addition to the budget discussions, lawmakers are set to vote on legislation concerning the National Intelligence Agency and passport regulations. The session will also include the second reading of the Fifth Amendment to the Civil Aviation Law.
Deputy Speaker Shakhawan Abdullah earlier hinted that Prime Minister Al-Sudani may present his views on the budget amendment and highlight the benefits of restarting oil exports within the next two days.
