Every year, the BBC releases a list of the 100 women who have had the greatest influence on the globe as a result of their contributions and accomplishments. Kurdish activists Nadia Murad and Jina Moderis Gorji are on this year’s list.
Following what happened in Sinjar, ISIS kidnapped Yazidi activist Nadia Murad. She managed to flee after a few months and went on to fight for the rights of women, particularly Yazidi women.
She received the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her efforts since her escape.
Jina Moderis Gorji is a Kurdish journalist and activist who has advocated for women’s rights. She detained multiple times following Jina Amini’s death owing to police brutality and the start of “Women, Life, Freedom” movements before a court decision finally condemned her to two years in prison.
