Iranian President Pezeshkian: We Have Never Attempted to Assassinate Trump, Warns Against War

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, US President-elect Donald Trump.

The Iranian President has rejected rumors of a plot to assassinate Donald Trump, warning US President-elect against initiating war with Iran.

In an interview with NBC News, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian denied any intention to harm Trump, saying, “We have never attempted this to begin with, and we never will,” when asked if Iran would guarantee no attempt would be made on Trump’s life.

He further dismissed assassination allegations as “another one of those schemes that Israel and other countries are designing to promote Iranophobia,” adding, “Iran has never attempted to nor does it plan to assassinate anyone, at least as far as I know.”

Regarding nuclear talks, Pezeshkian stated, “We upheld all the commitments that we had to commit to,” but added, “But unfortunately, it was the other party that did not live up to its promises and obligations.”

Expressing doubt about the intentions of opposing parties, he remarked, “We have this doubt that, no matter how much we engage in conversation and dialogue, they are trying to topple the government, not solve the problems.”

The Iranian President also called on the US president-elect to take the lead in promoting peace and stability both regionally and globally.

This interview marks Pezeshkian’s first with foreign media since the U.S. presidential election.
