UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir O. Pedersen, stated that the transition process in Syria must include all parties and emphasized the importance of resolving the situation in northeastern Syria.

Speaking at a news conference in Damascus attended by a Channel8 reporter, Pedersen noted that one of the key topics he discussed with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa was the crisis in northeastern Syria. He expressed hope that the new Syrian administration would address and resolve the issue.

Responding to a question from a Channel8 reporter about negotiations between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syria’s new administration, Pedersen said, We need to give the two parties time to find a solution so that we avoid full-scale military confrontation.”

Pedersen stated to Channel8 that the new Syrian administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) should resolve their conflicts without resorting to military action.

The UN Special Envoy highlighted that unifying armed groups under a single army remains a significant challenge for the new Syrian administration.

Geir O. Pedersen called for thorough preparations for the Syrian National Dialogue Congress and welcomed ongoing initiatives, including a meeting between Ahmed al-Sharaa, head of the new Syrian administration, and Mazloum Abdi, the commander-in-chief of the SDF.

Pedersen mentioned that talks between Turkey and the United States regarding northeastern Syria are ongoing and expressed optimism about the discussions.

He urged the international community to support the new Syrian administration and stated that efforts would be made to lift sanctions.
