The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) expressed support for the demands of teachers and employees in the Kurdistan Region regarding their salary issue, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive solution to the salary problem.

“We will be a steadfast supporter of all the legitimate demands of teachers and all segments of society in Kurdistan who are defending their salaries and their dignified, proud livelihoods,” the PUK Political Bureau said in a statement.

The statement also noted that Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, concluded his visit to the United States to exert pressure on both the Kurdistan Regional Government and Baghdad for a permanent resolution to the issue of salaried employees.

According to the statement, the PUK views the strikes and civil actions taken by teachers and employees in Sulaymaniyah province, advocating for their salaries and guarantees, as a justified civil will.

The PUK emphasized that there is no excuse for the ongoing issue of delayed salaries, particularly given the clear decisions of the Federal Court regarding salary entitlements. It further stressed that the joint commitment between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government should be implemented, free from political exploitation.

The PUK said in a statement that it is unjustifiable to leave people in uncertainty regarding the arrival or non-arrival of their salaries, and that this prolonged issue, which persists without a valid reason, must be resolved once and for all.
