Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Ozgur Ozel has called for an end to the ‘oppression’ of former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtas and demanded his release.
“The active role of an experienced and successful politician like Demirtas in building peace in our country is very valuable,” Ozel wrote in an article published in Cumhuriyet newspaper.
Ozel emphasized that while Demirtas does not speak about this issue himself, in order for him to play an effective role, the injustice he has suffered must be brought to an end.
“Therefore, the Turkish Justice Ministry should immediately resume the retrial of Demirtas based on the decision of the European Court of Human Rights, and he should be released,” he added.
