Iraq, Spain Discuss Energy Cooperation as Baghdad Seeks to Modernize Power Sector

Iraq’s Minister of Electricity Ziyad Ali Fadhil on Monday emphasized the importance of expanding international cooperation to modernize the country’s energy infrastructure, as Spain expressed readiness to contribute to Iraq’s energy sector development.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Electricity, Fadhil met with Spanish Ambassador to Iraq Alicia Rico to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

Rico highlighted the interest of Spanish renewable energy companies in investing in Iraq, stating that Spain is prepared to offer expertise and modern technologies to support the development of Iraq’s energy infrastructure.

Welcoming Spain’s interest, Fadhil stressed the importance of seizing available opportunities to advance energy projects, adding that Iraq aims to strengthen international partnerships to address energy challenges and promote sustainability.
