Iraqi Prime Minister al-Sudani to Visit Turkey on May 8 After High-Level Security Talks

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani is set to visit Turkey on May 8, according to a joint statement issued following the fifth meeting of the High-Level Security Mechanism between Iraq and Turkey, held on Sunday in Antalya.

The statement noted that the discussions focused on enhancing coordination in border security and reaffirming the territorial integrity of both countries.

It outlined that counter-terrorism efforts, the defense industry, energy cooperation, water issues, and the Development Road project were among the key topics addressed.

The statement emphasized the importance of acting on the call of imprisoned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Ocalan and underscored the need to dismantle and disarm the PKK. Furthermore, both sides agreed to form a joint committee to address the situation in the al-Hol and Roj camps in Syria.

Both countries also expressed concern over Israeli actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria.
