Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji met with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz on Thursday.
According to the Advisor’s Media Office, the two sides “discussed strengthening cooperation relations and issues of common interest.”
The statement emphasized the importance of exerting efforts to enhance ties at the “strategic level” and stressed “the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation between the two countries in the field of combating terrorism and border control.”
Following high-level security talks earlier this week at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF), Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that Iraq has officially recognized the PKK as an “illegal organization,” aligning with Ankara’s counterterrorism stance.
Fidan described the discussions as “productive,” adding that a joint statement had been prepared, with both sides presenting their security efforts with “great sincerity and devotion.”
