Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with Abdulaziz al-Shammari, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Iraq, on Thursday.

In a statement, Talabani highlighted that they discussed the longstanding relations between the late President Mam Jalal and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, “emphasizing the importance of further developing these ties.”

Talabani expressed the PUK’s concern regarding the expansion of investment opportunities for Saudi Arabia in the Kurdistan Region.

He reiterated that they are “ready to provide all facilities to Saudi companies and investors to play an effective role in the further economic revival of the Kurdistan Region,” which would help create additional job opportunities.

The statement also noted that the political situation in the Middle East was another topic of discussion. Both sides stressed the need to unite efforts in order to keep the region free from further tensions.
