Liverpool FC secured their 20th Premier League title on Sunday after a commanding 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, drawing level with arch-rivals Manchester United for the most league titles in English football history.

Needing only a draw to seal the championship, Liverpool left no doubt. Despite falling behind early to a Dominic Solanke goal in the 12th minute, the Reds quickly responded. Luis Díaz equalized four minutes later, before Alexis Mac Allister (24’) and Cody Gakpo (34’) extended Liverpool’s lead. The first half ended with Arne Slot’s side comfortably ahead 3-1. In the second half, Mohamed Salah added a fourth goal before an own goal by Destiny Udogie completed the rout.

With this win, Liverpool climbed to 82 points, maintaining a 15-point lead over second-placed Arsenal with four matches remaining. Salah also finished as the league’s top scorer, further cementing his place in Liverpool folklore.

Salah: More Than a Footballer

The connection between Mohamed Salah and the city of Liverpool has grown beyond the pitch. Salah, who chose to stay at Liverpool after his family fully settled into local life, is now woven into the city’s fabric.

Calls for a statue in Salah’s honor are growing louder. Steve Rotheram, Liverpool’s mayor, praised the Egyptian star’s impact, saying:

“Salah has done more for Liverpool than any politician or government. He’s united the city beyond football, breaking down barriers and dispelling myths.”

In a city known for its strong cultural icons like The Beatles and institutions like John Moores University, Salah’s contributions, both sporting and social, have made him a beloved figure.

“You have to understand what Liverpool is about,” Rotheram continued. “It’s a city of close ties, and someone like Mohamed Salah resonates far beyond the game.”

Though Salah remains a private figure—his public appearances rare and mythologized—his presence looms large in the everyday stories and spirit of the city.

Liverpool’s Recent Triumphs

This marks Liverpool’s second league title in five years, highlighting a return to sustained success. Meanwhile, Riyad Mahrez, often compared with Salah in discussions about Arab footballing legends, remains distant from matching Salah’s achievements at Liverpool.

Sunday’s celebrations at Anfield capped a season of dominance, and Liverpool’s 20th league title only strengthens their legacy as one of the greatest clubs in world football.
