In a development, Iraq has been granted the opportunity to represent the Arab Group in technical negotiations at the upcoming Bonn Climate Change Conference. 

The Arab Group for Climate Change Negotiations, during preparatory meetings for the highly anticipated COP29, has elected two prominent members of Iraq's climate negotiating delegation to champion crucial topics on the agenda.

Ms. Raghda Talal Al-Daoudi from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been appointed to represent the Arab group in discussions pertaining to Climate Change and Gender issues. 

Dr. Mohammed Jabbar Ajrash from the Ministry of Oil, on the other hand, will represent the Arab group on matters concerning Bunker Fuel and Maritime Transport. for Iraq. 

It empowers the nation to effectively voice its concerns and priorities on climate change at one of the most significant global platforms. Given Iraq's high vulnerability to the impacts of climate change, this recognition carries profound environmental, economic, and political implications both at home and on the international stage.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been instrumental in supporting Iraq in this endeavor. 

Providing crucial technical assistance to the negotiation team and offering on-the-ground support to the Ministry of Environment, UNDP has enabled Iraq to actively engage in COP27, COP28, and now the upcoming COP29 in Baku. This dedicated support has equipped Iraq to confront its climate-related challenges and advocate for its interests on the global arena, laying the foundation for impactful change.
