PM al-Sudani: No One Imposes Their Convictions on Iraq — We Believe in Regional Partnership

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani reaffirmed on Sunday that Iraq remains politically independent and rejects any imposition of external convictions, emphasizing the country’s commitment to regional partnerships and economic integration.
During a meeting with senior sheikhs and tribal leaders held on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the Prime Minister stressed that Iraq is capable of becoming a vital economic corridor that serves both global trade and neighboring countries. He described the "Path of Development" initiative as a key national project that will shape a new economic future for Iraq.
According to a statement issued by his media office, al-Sudani extended Eid greetings to the Iraqi people and the tribal leaders in attendance. He also expressed solidarity with Gaza, praying for an end to the suffering caused by what he described as “brutal aggression.”
“Iraqi tribes and clans represent a core social pillar that contributed to the foundation of the modern Iraqi state,” the Prime Minister said, praising their continued role in national unity and resilience.
Addressing the broader challenges facing the country, al-Sudani stated that his government has developed a structured approach to prioritize and resolve key issues, driven by a clear vision aligned with the needs of Iraqi citizens.
“Today, we are witnessing renewed momentum across workplaces, correcting past mismanagement and planning failures. We are implementing important economic reforms, including the activation of non-oil sectors,” he said.
Notably, he pointed to the successful export of 80 Iraqi-manufactured products as evidence of this progress.
Reaffirming Iraq’s sovereign stance on international affairs, al-Sudani emphasized that the country has established a clear and independent political position across regional matters. “We have supported and continue to support our brothers in Lebanon and Palestine,” he said.
He concluded by stating: “No one imposes their convictions on Iraq. We believe in true partnership with countries in the region and remain committed to placing Iraq’s supreme interests at the heart of regional developments.”
