Iraqi PM Al-Sudani Underscores Syria’s Stability as Vital to Iraq’s National Security

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized on Wednesday that Syria’s stability is essential for Iraq’s national security, reaffirming Baghdad’s commitment to supporting reconciliation efforts in the neighboring country.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s media office, al-Sudani made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Shiite Islamic Scholars Association in Syria, headed by Sheikh Adham al-Khatib.
The meeting focused on recent developments in Syria and highlighted the need to promote a culture of reconciliation, peaceful coexistence, and social stability.
“Syria’s stability directly impacts Iraq’s national security,” al-Sudani stated, stressing the importance of inclusive governance that involves all segments of Syrian society. He reiterated Iraq’s support for a unified Syrian state based on citizenship, the preservation of territorial integrity, and respect for sovereignty.
Al-Sudani also condemned any violations of Syria’s sovereignty and expressed hope that reconciliation efforts would pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
