U.S. Issues Level 4 'Do Not Travel' Advisory for Iraq Due to "Terrorism", "Conflict", and "Civil Unrest"

The U.S. Department of State has ordered the departure of non-emergency American government personnel from Iraq due to heightened regional tensions, according to an official notice posted on the agency’s X account.
The notice serves as a stark reminder that Iraq remains under a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory—the most severe category issued by the State Department.
“Do not travel to Iraq due to terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflict, civil unrest, and the U.S. government’s limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Iraq,” the advisory reads.
The directive comes amid escalating rhetoric and threats in the region, including warnings from Iranian officials and ongoing instability in neighboring countries. U.S. citizens are urged to review the full advisory at the official travel website and to avoid all travel to Iraq at this time.
This move adds to growing international concern about potential military escalations and the vulnerability of diplomatic personnel in volatile regions.
