Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Monday criticized the international community for failing to prevent rising tensions and safeguard peace and security in the region.

In a meeting with ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions from Asia, the Americas, Australia, and Turkey, al-Sudani called on “the international community, and particularly the United States, to fulfill its role in halting this aggression and to pursue a peaceful solution through the resumption of negotiations.”

He said Iraq had worked to stop the hostilities through broad discussions with global leaders and foreign ministers. He described the ongoing Israeli military operations as “a threat to global peace and security, as well as to Iraq’s stability and security.”

Al-Sudani further warned that “such violations of international law by the occupying entity will have dangerous consequences,” reaffirming Iraq’s rejection of any breach of its sovereignty. He added that Iraq had submitted an official complaint to international and United Nations bodies.

He accused Israel of “seeking to escalate the conflict in the region in an effort to reshape the Middle East,” and emphasized “Iran’s legitimate right to self-defense in accordance with United Nations laws.”

Earlier, during a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday, al-Sudani said Iraq views Iran’s security as essential to regional stability and remains committed to preventing further escalation. He also expressed “full solidarity” with Tehran in response to Israeli military operations.

The military conflict between Iran and Israel entered its fourth day, with both sides launching a series of retaliatory strikes. According to Iran’s Health Ministry, at least 224 people have been killed and more than 1,200 injured. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office reported at least 24 fatalities and 592 wounded.
