U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and Consulate General in Erbil Confirm No Change in Operations Amid Regional Security Concerns

The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad said on Friday that there has been no change in the current status of operations at the embassy in Baghdad and the Consulate General in Erbil.
“The operating status of Embassy Baghdad and Consulate General Erbil is unchanged,” the embassy said in a statement.
It also stated that the U.S. remains “strongly committed” to advancing its policy priorities in Iraq, supporting Iraq’s sovereignty, and maintaining engagement with Iraqi leaders and the Iraqi people.
The embassy’s statement comes amid reports suggesting that both the embassy in Baghdad and the Consulate General in Erbil have been closed.
Following the outbreak of the conflict between Israel and Iran, the United States withdrew some of its diplomats from its embassy in Baghdad due to heightened security threats in the region but has not closed the facility.
