Iran Updates War Death Toll to 935 Amid Rising Civilian Casualty Concerns

Iran has raised its official death toll from its 12-day war with Israel to 935 people, according to state media reports released Monday.
The state-run IRNA news agency did not specify how many of the dead were military personnel versus civilians but noted that “38 children and 132 women were among the dead.” Last week, the agency had reported 627 fatalities.
Meanwhile, the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists group has presented higher figures. Over the weekend, the organisation reported that “1,190 people had been killed,” citing data from its network of medical staff and local volunteers. Of these deaths, the group said “436 were civilians, 435 were military, and 319 have not yet been identified.”
The rights group has consistently published higher casualty estimates than official Iranian reports.
The war began on June 13, when Israel launched a relentless military campaign against Iran, “targeting nuclear sites, defense systems, high-ranking military officials, and atomic scientists,” according to analysts.
In response, Iran fired more than 550 ballistic missiles at Israel. While most were intercepted, “those that got through caused damage in many areas and killed 28 people,” according to regional security sources.
