Iraq Federal Supreme Court Judges Withdraw Resignations After Judicial Council Meeting

After a meeting chaired by Fayeq Zidan that included judges from the Court of Appeal and other judicial bodies, nine judges of Iraq’s Federal Supreme Court withdrew their resignations.

The nine judges of Iraq’s Federal Supreme Court have withdrawn their resignations, the Judicial Council announced, after the reasons for their resignations no longer existed. The withdrawal followed a special meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council chaired by its head, Fayeq Zidan.

The meeting was attended by judges from the Court of Appeal, the Chief Public Prosecutor, the Judicial Supervision Authority, and the Federal Supreme Court.

In a statement released after the meeting, participants thanked the judges for withdrawing their resignations after the reasons for stepping down no longer existed.

The meeting discussed mechanisms to ensure proper judicial work and adherence to the judiciary’s responsibilities in accordance with the constitution and applicable laws, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining judicial independence and impartiality.

The participants also congratulated Munther Ibrahim Hussein on his appointment as the new President of the Federal Supreme Court.

The nine judges of the Federal Supreme Court had submitted their resignations on June 19.
