PUK Calls on Iraqi Prime Minister to Investigate Drone Strikes in Sulaymaniyah, Citing Threats to Sovereignty

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) faction in the Iraqi parliament issued a statement on the crash of two drones in Sulaymaniyah, describing the attacks as an attempt to undermine the sovereignty of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and urged Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to form a committee to investigate the incident.
“We condemn the criminal act that targeted the Unit 70 Forces headquarters in the Tasluja area of Sulaymaniyah province through two drone attacks,” the PUK faction said.
The statement added that the purpose of these actions is "to violate the sovereignty of the territory and airspace of Iraq and Kurdistan and endanger the security of the region and the lives of civilians."
The faction noted that similar attacks occurred in Kirkuk province two days earlier, followed by the drone strikes in Sulaymaniyah, and called on Iraqi Prime Minister to urgently form an investigation committee to uncover the facts and identify the source of the drones.
The PUK faction further called for the protection of citizens' property and the sovereignty of the country to prevent actions that threaten Iraq's security and social coexistence.
On Tuesday night, two drones crashed in Sulaymaniyah’s Tasluja area without causing any casualties. Ahmed Latif, spokesperson for the Unit 70 Forces, said their forces had shot down the drones, adding that neither had exploded at their headquarters.
