The Kurdistan Region Council of Ministers meeting concluded on Wednesday without reaching a decision regarding salaries, a source familiar with the meeting told Channel8.

The source stated that the Kurdistan Region delegation presented the outcomes of recent talks held with the federal government.

According to the source, the delegation indicated that the Kurdistan Region’s proposals concerning salaries and demands from oil companies have been submitted to the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office, awaiting a decision by Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.

The delegation traveled to Baghdad and has held several meetings in recent days with officials from the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO), the Ministry of Oil, and the Prime Minister’s Office. They also recently met with the Iraqi Economic Council.

The source added that the delegation contacted cabinet mediators to inquire whether al-Sudani had made a decision on the proposals for an oil export agreement, but were informed that no approval has been granted yet.

Salary payments from Baghdad, the source further explained, depend on resolving the oil export issue.

Employees of the Kurdistan Region have not yet received their salaries for May and June, while the federal government is scheduled to begin distributing July pensions on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Council of Ministers convened yesterday but did not discuss the Kurdistan Region’s oil exports or salary payments. Al-Sudani’s adviser, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Channel8 that neither the prime minister nor any ministers raised the salary issue, nor did they address the Kurdistan Regional Government’s oil export proposals.

The prime minister stressed, the source said, that reaching an agreement on oil handover and compliance with Iraq’s budget law is essential for salary payments and continued negotiations.
