The United States has denounced Iran’s decision to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), calling it “unacceptable.”

The move, approved by President Masoud Pezeshkian and enacted this week, follows Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in mid-June.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce urged Tehran to resume full cooperation with the UN watchdog “without further delay.” The UN also expressed concern, with spokesman Stéphane Dujarric reiterating Secretary-General António Guterres’s call for transparency and continued oversight.

The Iranian parliament passed the suspension law after a 12-day conflict in which Israel targeted nuclear and military sites. Iranian lawmakers cited violations of sovereignty and international law.

Western nations, including Germany, France, and the U.K., have condemned the move, warning it could jeopardize diplomatic efforts to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon—an allegation Tehran denies, maintaining its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar called for the reimposition of sanctions and urged a unified international response to “stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions.”
