Israeli Airstrike on Gaza School Kills 12; IDF Vows Continued Operations Amid Ceasefire Proposal

Gaza Civil Defense said on Thursday that 12 people were killed, most of whom were children and women, due to an Israeli airstrike on a school in western Gaza City sheltering displaced Palestinians, while Israel Defense Forces (IDF) vowed to eliminate targets endangering their forces.
“12 martyrs, the majority of them children and women,” a Civil Defense official told Agence France-Presse.
The official said there were “a large number of injuries in an Israeli airstrike on the Mustafa Hafez School, which shelters displaced persons, in the Al-Rimal neighborhood.” The Israeli military told the news agency it will attempt to investigate the report.
The IDF stated it hit 150 Gaza targets in 24 hours, including “sniper nests,” and pledged to continue striking “until every threat is removed.”
Meanwhile, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that overnight airstrikes and shootings killed 82 Palestinians, including 38 trying to access humanitarian aid.
As the prospect of a ceasefire emerges with U.S. support, Israel has warned it will resort to military force if no agreement is reached on a prisoner exchange. Approximately 50 hostages remain in Gaza, with fewer than half believed to be alive.
U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Israel agreed to a 60-day ceasefire, with Qatar and Egypt mediators preparing the final proposal. He expressed hope that “for the good of the Middle East” Hamas accepts the deal, warning that the situation “will not improve and it will only get worse.”
