Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that a negotiation team will visit Qatar on Sunday for talks related to a ceasefire and a hostage deal.

The Prime Minister’s office said in a statement that, following an assessment of the situation, Netanyahu has directed acceptance of the invitation to proximity talks.

The statement added that “the contacts for the return of our hostages – on the basis of the Qatari proposal that Israel has agreed to – be continued.” Around 50 hostages remain in Gaza, with fewer than half believed to be alive.

It added, “The changes that Hamas is seeking to make in the Qatari proposal were conveyed to us last night and are unacceptable to Israel.”

According to sources familiar with the negotiations, the agreement outlines a two-month ceasefire, a hostage-prisoner exchange, and the repatriation of bodies held by both sides. The proposal reportedly incorporates Hamas’s comments on an earlier draft and adds specific implementation mechanisms.

Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump said Israel had agreed to secure a 60-day ceasefire and on Friday said he is “very optimistic” about a deal on Gaza.

Earlier, Hamas said it has “submitted a positive response to the mediators” and is ready to engage immediately and seriously in negotiations to implement the proposal.

Trump, set to meet Netanyahu, has stated he anticipates a ceasefire before Netanyahu’s U.S. visit and intends to take a “very firm” stance on ending the war in Gaza.
