The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) announced on Sunday that the delegation has departed for the island to meet with PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The delegation consists of DEM Party MPs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar, representing Van and Riha (Urfa), respectively, along with Ocalan's lawyer Faik Ozgur Erol.

The visit comes as the DEM Party stated yesterday that a delegation will travel to the Kurdistan Region to attend the first PKK disarmament ceremony, describing this period as a significant step toward peace and democracy, marking a new era, and highlighting the party’s ongoing facilitation since the process began.

The party also confirmed it has invited 15 to 20 journalists, alongside representatives of political parties and civil society, to attend the ceremony and will accompany its delegation to the Kurdistan Region.

Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he plans to meet with the delegation next week to discuss current and future steps in the peace process.

The visit coincides with an expected ceremony between July 10 and 12, where a number of PKK members in the Kurdistan Region are set to lay down their arms.
