Two members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed on Sunday while attempting to defuse unexploded ordnance in western Iran, according to local media reports.

The deadly incident occurred in Khorramabad, an area targeted last month during a 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran. The war, which began on June 13 with an Israeli bombing campaign, was aimed at preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons—an ambition Tehran continues to deny.

Tasnim news agency, citing an IRGC statement, reported that the two guards were killed while clearing explosives left behind by what it described as “the Zionist regime’s aggression.”

The Israeli strikes last month resulted in the deaths of key Iranian military commanders, including IRGC members, as well as top nuclear scientists. Overall, the conflict killed more than 900 people across Iran, according to the country’s judiciary. In retaliation, Iranian missile attacks killed at least 28 people in Israel, official figures show.

Separately on Sunday, Fars news agency reported that an Iranian soldier in Yazd, central Iran, died from injuries sustained during one of Israel’s air raids.

A ceasefire between the two countries took effect on June 24. On Saturday, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made his first public appearance since the war began, attending a religious ceremony in Tehran. Last week, Iran reopened its airspace, including over the capital, which had been closed since the first day of hostilities.
