Iraq’s Oil Exports Edge Up in June Despite Annual Decline

Iraq’s oil exports rose slightly in June, according to new data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
The country exported 3.27 million barrels per day (bpd) by sea last month, up from 3.23 million bpd in May, marking an increase of 40,000 bpd.
However, despite this monthly growth, Iraq’s average seaborne oil exports fell on an annual basis. During the first half of 2025, exports averaged 3.32 million bpd, down from 3.43 million bpd over the same period in 2024.
This trend comes as Iraq and other OPEC+ countries agreed to raise oil output by 411,000 bpd in May and June, exceeding initial expectations. Earlier in 2025, Iraqi oil exports showed minor fluctuations due to production limits set by OPEC+, despite higher export levels in the first two months of the year.
Iraq’s oil shipments had dropped sharply at the end of 2024, particularly in November and December, as the country enforced voluntary cuts under OPEC+ agreements. Analysts now expect Iraqi exports to gradually rise in the coming months following the decision by eight OPEC+ members to resume limited volumes starting in April.
