Imrali Delegation: Ocalan Sees New Phase in Peace Process, Emphasizes Role of Turkish Parliament

The Imrali delegation issued a statement following its meeting with imprisoned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Ocalan on the island of Imrali, noting that Ocalan believes the process has entered a new phase and the Turkish parliament should play an important role.
The delegation reported that Ocalan is in good health and said they were informed during the meeting of the deaths of five Turkish soldiers in the Kurdistan Region due to methane gas, stating that the news caused "deep concern" among both Ocalan and the delegation.
The statement highlighted that Ocalan said the next steps would require everyone to take responsibility for the process.
According to the delegation, Ocalan described Monday’s meeting between the delegation and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as “important and historic.”
Ocalan also asserted that forming a committee in the Turkish parliament dedicated to the process would play an important role in achieving peace and a resolution.
The delegation further said they saw strong hope and confidence in Ocalan that the process would contribute significantly to Turkey’s democratization.
The delegation visiting Ocalan on Sunday included DEM Party MPs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar, representing Van and Riha (Urfa), respectively, along with Ocalan’s lawyer Faik Ozgur Erol. They met with Ocalan for two hours and 30 minutes.
