In a coordinated effort to combat drug trafficking, Erbil Asayish forces and Iraq's General Directorate of Drug Control have seized nearly 200 kilograms of narcotics in separate operations carried out in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, and Al-Anbar in western Iraq.

The Asayish Directorate in Erbil reported that its forces successfully confiscated 85 kilograms of crystal meth and cocaine during two distinct security operations.

The raids resulted in the arrest of four individuals, three of whom are Syrian nationals, on charges of drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, the General Directorate of Drug Control in Iraq disclosed that 100 kilograms of Captagon were intercepted in Al-Anbar following a seven-day intelligence operation.

The carefully executed ambush caught the traffickers attempting to smuggle the Captagon pills concealed within a fruit transport vehicle.

Authorities confirmed that the entire international drug trafficking network, consisting of four members, has been dismantled. The suspects are now in custody under a judicial order. According to Article 27 of Iraq's Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017, those involved in international drug trafficking may face the death penalty.
