CHANNEL8 EXCLUSIVE: SDF and Transitional Government Agree on Managing Aleppo and Deir Ezzor
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Damascus Transitional Government have reached an agreement to jointly manage Aleppo and Deir Ezzor, according to Channel8’s reporter. Talks are reportedly ongoing regarding the town of Serekaniye, which has been under the control of Turkish-backed armed groups since 2019.
A source revealed that the agreement ensures the Kurdish neighborhoods of Ashrafiya and Sheikh Maqsood in Aleppo remain under the control of Kurdish forces. Meanwhile, in Deir Ezzor, where the SDF recently withdrew, both sides agreed to reestablish the Euphrates River as the border between their areas of control, as it was prior to the fall of Assad's regime.
Discussions regarding the future of Serekaniye continue, with no final agreement reached yet.
This comes a day after the SDF announced a US-brokered ceasefire with Turkish-backed armed groups and confirmed their withdrawal from Manbij. The developments reflect ongoing negotiations to stabilize control and governance across key regions in Syria.
