Iraqi PM Al-Sudani Launches Digital Tax Inquiry Service for Citizens and Companies
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani officially launched the digital tax inquiry service for citizens and companies on Wednesday, as part of efforts to modernize Iraq’s tax system and improve transparency and efficiency.
The service was introduced during a meeting of the Supreme Committee for Tax Reform, which Al-Sudani chaired.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's media office, the new service is integrated into the Ur electronic service platform and is designed to allow citizens to inquire about their tax status electronically. The platform is intended to enhance the speed, accuracy, and transparency of tax-related processes for both individuals and businesses.
"This service will solve the problem of name similarity that often complicates tax processes and will facilitate faster completion of tax requirements for citizens," the statement noted.
New Income Tax Law to Encourage Investment
The meeting also included discussions on the new income tax law, which has been approved by the Council of Ministers and is currently awaiting legislation by the House of Representatives. The draft law, which aligns with international regulations, is designed to be business-friendly and aims to encourage investment, thereby contributing positively to economic growth.
Al-Sudani emphasized that the new tax law is part of a broader strategy to reform Iraq's financial system and create an environment that supports economic development.
Expanding Income Tax Applications and Financial Reforms
The meeting also focused on proposals from the Supreme Committee for Tax Reform to expand income tax applications and effectively implement tax reform laws. These measures are intended to simplify compliance for taxpayers and enhance financial stability.
By embracing the latest global systems and technologies, the Iraqi government aims to streamline tax processes and build a transparent and efficient tax system that supports both citizens and businesses in meeting their tax obligations easily.
The launch of the digital tax inquiry service marks a significant step in Iraq’s digital transformation efforts, signaling a commitment to modernizing governance and promoting economic growth through technological advancements.
