In a surprising revelation, Norwegian striker Erling Haaland of Manchester City has been named the fastest player in the UEFA Champions League this season, clocking a top speed of 36.9 km/h (22.9 mph), according to a report by the Daily Mail.

Despite Manchester City being eliminated in the play-off round after a 6-3 aggregate loss to Real Madrid, Haaland's impressive speed secured him the top spot, leaving fans astonished by his performance. Notably, the list of the top five fastest players did not include Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian star of Liverpool.

The report highlighted that Achraf Hakimi, the right-back for Paris Saint-Germain, secured the second place with a speed of 36.5 km/h (22.7 mph), followed closely by Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid at 36.4 km/h (22.6 mph). Matheus Nunes, Haaland's teammate at Manchester City, came in fourth with an identical speed of 36.4 km/h (22.6 mph), while Mama Baldé of Brest rounded out the top five at 36.1 km/h (22.4 mph).

Notable Absences and Surprises

Surprisingly, Bayern Munich's speedster Alphonso Davies did not make it into the top 10 list, and Real Madrid's Vinícius Júnior, last year's Ballon d'Or runner-up, was ranked 16th.

Additionally, the list excluded Mohamed Salah, whose pace has often been a crucial element for Liverpool in past Champions League campaigns. This omission has sparked discussions among fans and analysts about the Egyptian forward's current form.

Haaland’s Speed: A Key Asset

Haaland's top speed not only emphasizes his athletic prowess but also highlights why he is one of the most feared forwards in Europe. His speed, combined with his finishing ability, has made him a vital asset for Manchester City despite their early exit from the competition.

As the Champions League progresses, the focus remains on how these players' speed and agility will impact their respective teams' chances of advancing further. The absence of Mohamed Salah from the top five may also raise questions about Liverpool's tactical adjustments and his role moving forward.
