Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji on Wednesday in Erbil, with both emphasizing the need for continued coordination between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army, according to a statement from the presidency.

The presidency said Barzani and al-Araji “discussed the latest developments in the security situation in Iraq” and “stressed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation between the Peshmerga, security forces, and the Iraqi army.”

They also discussed the situation in the Middle East and its impact on the countries of the region.

“Both sides agreed to continue the policy and work to keep Iraq away from the problems and conflicts in the region and to resolve issues to maintain peace and stability in the country,” the statement added.

The presidency said the meeting also addressed border security and other related issues. The latest efforts in the peace process in Turkey were also discussed.

Al-Araji arrived in Erbil on the recommendation of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and met with the Kurdistan Region’s interior minister, and was set to meet other officials during his visit.
