The General Directorate for Anti-Narcotics Control under the Kurdistan Region Security Agency announced today the destruction of nearly one ton of illegal narcotic substances.

According to an official statement, the operation was carried out with the cooperation of the Sulaymaniyah Health and Judiciary departments.

The destroyed drugs included a wide range of dangerous substances, reflecting ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

Salam Abdulkhaliq, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region Security Agency, stated during a press conference that, “The total quantity of destroyed narcotics exceeds 800 kilograms, including 398 kilograms of crystal meth, 184 kilograms of heroin, and 147 kilograms of opium, alongside various other substances.”

He emphasized the growing drug trade in both the Kurdistan Region and globally, but also noted a decrease in local consumption. “The trafficking of drugs has increased both worldwide and within the Kurdistan Region, but the rate of actual drug use has dropped,” Abdulkhaliq added.
