  • The KDP spokesperson defended the vote as a legal and democratic process.

Information obtained by Channel8 shows that the Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) will convene today under the chairmanship of party President Bafel Jalal Talabani, following the election of the parliamentary presidency.

Key Statements and Focus Area

  • PUK on the Legitimacy of the Outcome: "If the principle of democracy is to influence the decisions of parliamentarians through bribery, threats, and psychological pressure, then within that cartoonish framework, we will not recognize any parliament or government that results from such meetings." — Karwan Gaznay, PUK spokesperson.

  • KDP on the Process: The parliamentary presidency was elected through "a legal and democratic process." — Mahmoud Mohammed, KDP spokesperson.

  • Focus Area: The PUK's response to the reactivation of the Kurdistan Parliament without the participation of the major blocs and the political paths that could follow.

Four political scenarios are now emerging:

  • Scenario One: Parliament continues operating while the PUK boycotts the government and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) attempts to form a new cabinet.

  • Scenario Two: The PUK returns to parliamentary sittings after reaching an agreement with the KDP on forming the tenth cabinet.

  • Scenario Three: A new cabinet is formed and takes office without the PUK and the New Generation movement, which is what would set the stage for a dual-administration declaration.

  • Scenario Four: In reaction to a cabinet formed without the PUK and the New Generation movement, a system of two administrations is declared in the Kurdistan Region.

FYI

At the request of the KDP bloc and several other parties, the Kurdistan Parliament reactivated without the major blocs. Fifty-two lawmakers took part, appointing Vala Fareed as Speaker, Rami Nouri as Deputy Speaker, and Muna Qahwachi as Secretary.

Parliament Diwan Chief Ardalan Muhammad noted the absence of full cross-party attendance, while Speaker Fareed directed all factions to submit nominees for the Legal Committee by next Monday.

Gaznay described the session as an attempt to impose the will of a single party while disregarding genuine partnership and appealed to all regional factions to boycott it.

The KDP's Mohammed said the session was held in the presence of a majority of lawmakers and was not aimed at any specific group, expressing hope that other parties would decide to participate in protecting the legitimacy and entity of the Kurdistan Region.
