Hassan Sartip, the General Director of Curriculum at the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Education, announced that 142 school textbooks have been revised, with most of them now available in electronic format.

He also revealed that “the Kurdistan Regional Government has allocated 25 billion Iraqi dinars for printing textbooks in the United Arab Emirates.”

Speaking during a segment on Channel8’s news bulletin, Sertip explained that the updated books include subjects such as Social Studies, Geography, Economics, History, English, Science, and Mathematics across various grade levels.

He stressed that many of these changes were made after expert review: “Specialists and professionals pointed out that some parts of the curriculum were unsuitable for students, so the content was redesigned.”

Despite ongoing financial challenges, the Director General reaffirmed the government’s commitment: “In spite of the financial crisis, the Kurdistan Regional Government has allocated more than 25 billion dinars to print textbooks in the UAE.”

Sertip also noted efforts to modernize learning methods by integrating technology. “In some lessons, students can scan a barcode to access recorded songs or performances, creating a pathway to use electronic devices such as iPads, tablets, and mobile phones in the learning process,” he said.

The education official added that these electronic curriculum reforms are expected to encourage students to return to public schools from private institutions.

“Because of the innovative changes introduced in the curriculum, we expect to see a significant shift of students back to public schools. Many parents now believe that public schools can provide a higher quality education,” he concluded.
