The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces said ISIS terrorists are not a threat and that security forces are “capable and fully prepared” to respond to any danger, adding that the country’s borders are safe.

Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency, spokesman Sabah al-Numan stated that “ISIS gangs pose no threat to Iraq,” highlighting that Iraqi security forces conduct monitoring and security operations targeting terrorist elements wherever they operate on a daily basis.

“These groups continue to suffer sustained blows thanks to the alertness and determination of our forces,” al-Numan noted.

On the possible threat to Iraq’s borders, he affirmed that “regional developments have no direct impact on Iraq’s security,” adding that they are confident in their forces.

He further confirmed that the group in Iraq has been defeated and “continues to face targeted operations from our security forces, who remain well-equipped and highly motivated.”

In a series of operations as part of ongoing national efforts to suppress ISIS attacks on August 12, Kurdistan Commando Forces, the General Directorate of Operations of the Kurdistan Region Security Agency, and Iraq’s Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS), in coordination with Coalition Forces, arrested 11 terrorists and destroyed multiple tunnels and caves nationwide.

The Channel8 reporter said that 35 kilometers were cleared during the operation and secured from terrorist threats and security gaps

Days prior to that operation, the Iraqi Military Intelligence Directorate announced the arrest of seven wanted terrorists in operations conducted across several provinces in coordination with local intelligence agencies.

According to Iraq’s National Security Service, more than 500 terror suspects were arrested nationwide in 2024 alone.
