The General Directorate of Taxes of the Finance Ministry has formally sues Shaswar Abdulwahid for “non-payment of taxes” and requested the closure of Chavi Land, but a source indicates that the closure has not been carried out.

On July 21, Kamal Tayeb, director of the General Directorate of Taxes of the Finance Ministry, sent a letter to the Sulaymaniyah Mayor, stating: “After multiple warnings to the owner of this company, whose name and address were registered with the General Directorate of Taxes under number 394 on July 15, 2025, and under the company name Chavi for tourism purposes, for the payment of taxes, the tax due has still not been legally collected.”

A source from the General Directorate of Taxes, speaking anonymously to Channel8, added: “Shaswar Abdulwahid owes two billion dinars in taxes, and he has been repeatedly notified without settling the amount.”

The General Directorate of Taxes and Inheritance, through its legal representative, registered the case against Shaswar Abdulwahid last week in Sulaymaniyah.

In the official letter, the General Director of Taxes requested from the Sulaymaniyah Mayor, in accordance with the Cabinet’s decision number 13 dated August 7, 2019, that Chavi Land be seized.

A source from the Sulaymaniyah Mayor, speaking to Channel 8, stated: “Chavi Land is a tourism project, and the outstanding tax can legally be collected and processed, but Chavi Land has neighboring partners and cannot be seized immediately.”
