Iraq’s National Security Advisor, Qasim al-Araji, announced that the proposed law concerning the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) has been postponed in the Iraqi Parliament until after the country’s elections.

In a statement to Iraqi media, al-Araji confirmed that, “As the National Security Advisor, we recommended delaying the parliamentary vote on the PMF draft law until after the elections are completed,” without disclosing the exact reasons behind the decision.

He stressed that no party or individual would be allowed to raise ideas about dismantling the PMF, describing the group as “an essential part of Iraq’s security structure that has made enormous sacrifices.”

Al-Araji firmly rejected claims that the United States had any role in influencing the decision, stating, “This postponement was not imposed by America.”

According to him, the draft law remains under review and “requires a certain level of support both domestically and internationally before it can be put to a vote.”
