Abdullah Ocalan has sent a message to the tribal sheikhs and elders of Jazira, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Tabqa, in which he stressed the importance of unity and support based on the foundation of a democratic national system.

In his message, this unity is described as “a new historical foundation for relations and alliances between the Kurdish and Arab peoples.”

Kurdish-Arab Historical Ties
Ocalan highlighted the deep, brotherly relations between Kurds and Arabs, noting that they are “rooted in the heart of history.” He referred to how, even during the rise of Islam, this friendship allowed many Kurds to easily become part of the Islamic community. He emphasized that these bonds of sisterhood and brotherhood have lasted for centuries and continue to shape their shared destiny.

Building a Democratic Syria
This relationship, according to Ocalan, is both historical and social, supported by a strong political foundation. His message underlined that “everyone must be equal and free, live together, and govern themselves.” Equality and justice, he argued, should be the basis upon which Kurds and Arabs live together. Supporting the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was described as “a significant step toward achieving this goal.”

The Role of Sheikhs and Elders
In conclusion, Ocalan pointed out that tribal sheikhs and community elders can play “an important and historical role in building a democratic, peaceful, united, and just Syria.” He stressed the importance of cooperation among Arabs, Kurds, Syriacs-Assyrians, and all other peoples living on this land. The message ended with hope and confidence for success and wellbeing.
