Iran-Iraq Trade Through Mehran Border Reaches $886 Million in 2025
Sohrab Kamari, director general of Costumes in Ilam province, revealed that since the beginning of this year, exports through the Mehran border crossing to Iraq and other countries have totaled $886.046 million in value and 1,424,458 tons in weight.
According to Kamari, around 400 trucks of goods have been exported daily through the border crossing.
He noted that goods worth $1.811 billion and 1.22 million tons were exported last year.
Key Export Commodities
The main export commodities were industrial goods, agricultural products, petrochemicals, electrical materials, building materials, and tiles and ceramics, along with metal and plastic products.
Strategic Importance of Mehran
The Mehran border crossing is considered one of Iran’s most important gateways, as it is located just 230 kilometers from the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, facilitating significant trade and transport between the two countries.
Trade Between Iran and Iraq
Annual trade between Iraq and Iran currently stands at approximately $12 billion, with both countries hinting at plans to increase it to $25-$30 billion annually.
According to Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), the country’s total exports to Iraq were about three billion dollars in 2024.
As reported by the TPO, 53% of goods exported to Iraq were consumer and value-added, 42% intermediate, and 3.95% capital goods.
