Qubad Talabani Orders Inquiry and Compensation Committees After Chamchamal Floods
KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani arrived in Chamchamal on Wednesday to assess the aftermath of severe flooding, visiting affected families and ordering the formation of investigative and compensation committees.
Committees for Damage Assessment and Accountability
Ata Mohammed, head of the Office of KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, said a team has been established to evaluate the extent of property damage across Chamchamal and prepare decisions on compensation for affected residents.
Talabani also instructed the creation of a separate committee to investigate the causes of the flooding.
“The cause of the flood and the negligent party will be identified, and legal action will be taken,” he said.
Visits to Affected Families
During his visit, Talabani first met with the family of the 70-year-old man who died on Monday after a wall collapsed on his home. He then toured several damaged neighborhoods and held discussions with local administrative officials.
Relief Efforts Underway
According to Ata Mohammed, Talabani has been overseeing the response since the early hours of the incident, coordinating aid from Sulaimani and Kirkuk.
“Aid and manpower have been sent to Chamchamal from both governorates,” Mohammed said.
